Talent development

We've long been invested in the training and development of our people and are focused on promoting from within wherever possible. Mackenzie Construction has been awarded Investors in People Platinum and Investors In Young People Gold as recognition of the training and development programmes we have in place.

We have invested heavily in our in-house training capabilities with the opening of our own training academy at our head office and some of our team undertaking formal qualifications in adult education to ensure our young people are provided with the best training and opportunities to help them realise their fullest potential.

APPRENTICESHIP SCHEME

Over the years we’ve continued to expand and develop our apprenticeship scheme and we’re now proud to have young trainees undertaking their apprenticeships with us spanning civil engineering, quantity surveying and bricklaying. This involves us taking on young people as foundation apprentices who we sponsor through college so that they gain a recognised qualification whilst earning valuable work experience in their fields. We also recruit graduates directly from university and support them through further professional qualifications that are endorsed by CITB where necessary.

TRAINING ACADEMY

We launched our in-house Training Academy in 2020 to encourage the sharing of knowledge between our skilled workforce and our younger generation whilst also ensuring that core skills relevant to the delivery of key client programmes are being implemented and retained. Some of our senior team have undertaken formal education training that equips them with the skills to deliver effective training sessions. Our Training Academy is fully accredited to EUSR which allows us to create bespoke accredited courses tailored to meet client needs and also allows us to develop courses on new products and technologies.

SUPPORTIVE MENTORING

Something we pride ourselves on at Mackenzie Construction is the level of support and mentoring our young people receive meaning our knowledge has been passed down the generations for over 40 years. Our leadership team understand the values we want to instill in our young people and this is helping to shape the next generation of Mackenzie Construction.

“In my experience the support aspect is what stands out to me about the way Mackenzie Construction trains and develops its young people. When I was a trainee, I was fortunate enough to work under mentors who encouraged you to use your own initiative but were always there to support which helped me develop my work skills immensely and overall encouraged me to become a better person.”

Young person's committee

Our Young Person's Committee was formed to provide a forum for our young people and facilitate better communication and collaboration with our senior team. The S.P.A.R.K acronym was developed in partnership by our young people and senior team to set an example and provide guidance for people just starting out in their careers.
