Mackenzie Construction Commits to SBTi Net-Zero Standard
Mackenzie Construction has committed to set near-term company-wide emission reductions in line with climate science with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
With the climate emergency and biodiversity loss being two of the most serious issues of our time, Mackenzie Construction sees a responsibility to play a leadership role in the sector. We understand that this drive to reduce greenhouse gas emissions cannot be achieved as a lone entity, but by working in close collaboration with our staff, clients, contractors and our wider supply chain to improve the environmental performance of our products and services.
The SBTi is a program that helps companies set goals to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. These goals are based on scientific research about how much Mackenzie Construction need to cut emissions to avoid the worst effects of climate change.
In simple terms, the SBTi helps companies make and keep promises to reduce their impact on the environment based on what scientists say is needed to fight climate change. The SBTi’s Corporate Net-Zero Standard provides the guidance and tools companies need to set science-based net-zero targets.
Key strengths of Mackenzie Construction committing to the Corporate Net-Zero Standard:
- Following Science:
- Mackenzie is promising to cut our pollution based on scientific advice about what’s needed to keep the planet safe.
- Clear Goals:
- Mackenzie is setting specific targets for how much and how quickly we will reduce our emissions.
- Approval:
- Experts from the initiative check Mackenzie’s plans to make sure they’re good enough.
- Public Promise:
- Mackenzie will share targets and progress, so people can see that it is serious.
- Taking Action:
- Mackenzie will change how we do things to use less energy and produce less pollution.
- Ongoing Effort:
- Mackenzie will regularly review and adjust our targets to stay on track with the latest science.
Companies have reported that adopting a science-based target boosts their profitability, improves investor confidence, drives innovation, reduces regulatory uncertainty and strengthens brand reputation. Through committing to science-based targets Mackenzie Construction hopes to demonstrate that creating a climate-secure world goes hand-in-hand with successful business operations.
