Check In: Building a Culture of Awareness and Support at Mackenzie Construction

At Mackenzie Construction, our people are the foundation of everything we do. From the work we deliver to the standards we uphold, it all starts with our teams and how we look after one another.

This Men’s Health Week, we’re launching a new internal campaign, Check In.

This campaign encourages all of us to take a moment to check in — with ourselves and with the people we work alongside. It’s a reminder that health, in every sense, deserves attention before things reach a breaking point. Whether it’s something physical, something mental, or just a gut feeling that something isn’t right, there’s always a way to act early.

Why it matters?

Civil engineering can be physically demanding, mentally tough, and time-pressured. And while the sector has made progress, it’s still true that many people find it hard to speak up when something feels wrong.

Too often, we hear “I’m fine” when someone isn’t.

‘Check In’ is about recognising the early signs, taking small actions, and supporting each other before problems grow.

What’s involved?

Throughout Men’s Health Week and beyond our team will see new materials and messaging to help embed this approach into everyday routines:

  • Posters with prompts to check in on yourself and others
  • Practical guidance on what signs to look out for
  • Clear information on internal and external support
  • Useful resources on how to look after yourself and others

Looking forward

Men’s Health Week gives us a moment to reflect but the message behind ‘Check In’ will extend beyond this as we strive to build an open, supportive and sustainable working culture. This is a long term effort, focusing on small changes that can lead to safer, healthier teams and a stronger industry.
