Reconstruction of Rutland Street

Mackenzie Construction has been engaged within a framework for City of Edinburgh Council for their roads and transport for over 3 years, which includes the undertaking of resurfacing of reconstruction of carriageways and footways with projects ranging from £150K to £750K.

Rutland Street Edinburgh is located within the centre of the historical area of Edinburgh within the vicinity of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. The road surface had, over the years, become dangerous and uneven.

The works comprised of reconstruction to the road surface and footways including careful breaking out of surfacing and existing setts, setting aside, excavating to formation and placing road construction to base layer and then replacing the setts. Where the setts were not present, road was planed and resurfaced. Works involved reconstruction of the footways and kerbing.

The road was required to remain open throughout the duration so therefore we were required to put extensive traffic management both vehicular and pedestrian. Works were phased to reduce the disruption to the local key stakeholders which included the Waldorf Astoria Hotel which is accessed directly from the street.
