Job purpose
The Structural Repair Operative follows direction from the Site Supervisor or Site Manager to deliver structural repair and refurbishment projects in a safe manner, on time and to the required quality standards.
The role will involve working as part of a specialist structural repair team undertaking the repair, refurbishment and protection of concrete and other structural elements across a range of infrastructure and water industry assets.
About the role
The Structural Repair Operative will work as part of a team to deliver structural repair and refurbishment works in accordance with project specifications, manufacturers’ requirements and client standards.
Typical activities may include concrete repair and preparation, breaking out defective concrete, installation of repair materials, crack and joint repairs, resin injection works, waterproofing, protective coatings and associated structural refurbishment activities.
The role requires a practical and safety-focused individual who takes pride in the quality of their work and is willing to develop their skills and knowledge within the specialist structural repair sector.
Key Accountabilities
- Ensure that all Health & Safety information provided in Risk Assessments, Method Statements and COSHH assessments is understood and adhered to.
- Carry out structural repair and refurbishment works in accordance with project specifications, drawings, manufacturers’ requirements and client standards.
- Undertake concrete preparation and repair activities, including controlled breaking out, preparation of reinforcement and application of repair materials.
- Carry out crack, joint, resin, waterproofing and protective coating works where required.
- Ensure all works are completed to the required quality standard and defects are identified and reported promptly.
- Correctly use and maintain tools, equipment and PPE relevant to the works being undertaken.
- Follow instructions from the Site Supervisor or Site Manager and work effectively as part of a wider construction team.
- Ensure good housekeeping and maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Ensure availability for work and maintain good timekeeping and attendance.
- Work productively and efficiently whilst maintaining the required standards of safety and quality.
- Engage positively with company values, policies, training and initiatives.
- Be willing to undertake additional training and develop competence in specialist structural repair techniques.
Person Specification
Essential
- Proven experience in a construction, structural repair, concrete repair or refurbishment environment.
- Practical understanding of construction Health & Safety requirements.
- Ability to follow Risk Assessments, Method Statements and instructions.
- Good understanding of what constitutes a quality finish and willingness to take pride in workmanship.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Willingness to work across different sites and locations as required.
Desirable
- Experience of structural or concrete repair.
- Experience working within the water industry or on water infrastructure assets.
- Experience with concrete repair products and systems.
- Experience of resin injection, crack repair, waterproofing or protective coatings.
- Experience of working within confined spaces.
- Job-specific training relevant to structural repair and refurbishment.
- CSCS specialist trade qualifications or relevant vocational qualifications.
Qualifications and Attainments
- CSCS Operatives Card or equivalent.
- Relevant trade qualification or construction-related training desirable.
- Confined Space training desirable.
- Full clean driving licence, if required to drive company vehicles.
