Job purpose: The individual fulfilling this role should be a competent and qualified site supervisor/foreman. It would be advantageous to have experience on structural refurbishment projects and or experience working on water assets.
Job purpose
The Structural Repair Site Supervisor (Foreman) is responsible for supervising and coordinating structural repair and refurbishment works on site, ensuring that activities are delivered safely, efficiently, on time and to the required quality standards.
The role will involve leading a specialist structural repair team undertaking the repair, refurbishment and protection of concrete and other structural elements across a range of infrastructure and water industry assets.
The Site Supervisor will provide day-to-day direction to the site team, ensuring that works are carried out in accordance with project specifications, drawings, Risk Assessments, Method Statements, manufacturers’ requirements and client standards.
Person specification
The Structural Repair Site Supervisor (Foreman) will have practical experience within structural repair, concrete repair, refurbishment or a similar construction environment, together with the ability to lead and supervise a site-based team.
The role requires a proactive and safety-focused individual who can organise and coordinate the daily works, maintain high standards of workmanship and communicate effectively with operatives, Site Management, subcontractors and client representatives.
The successful individual will have a strong understanding of specialist structural repair activities and will be capable of identifying issues on site, resolving problems where appropriate and escalating matters to the Site Manager when required.
Key accountabilities
- Take responsibility for the day-to-day supervision and coordination of structural repair and refurbishment works, ensuring activities are delivered safely, efficiently, to the required quality and in accordance with the programme.
- Ensure all Health & Safety requirements are understood and adhered to, including Risk Assessments, Method Statements and COSHH assessments. Deliver daily briefings and toolbox talks, challenge unsafe acts or conditions and take appropriate action where required.
- Allocate and coordinate labour, plant, materials and equipment to ensure the site team is appropriately resourced and works are carried out efficiently.
- Supervise structural repair and refurbishment activities in accordance with project specifications, drawings, manufacturers’ requirements and client standards, including concrete repair, crack and joint repairs, resin injection, waterproofing and protective coatings.
- Monitor workmanship and quality, identifying defects or deviations from the specification and ensuring appropriate corrective action, inspection, testing and quality records are completed.
- Monitor progress against the programme and proactively identify and report delays, constraints or other issues to the Site Manager.
- Maintain effective communication with the Site Manager, site team, subcontractors, suppliers and client representatives, as required to support the successful delivery of the works.
- Ensure plant, equipment, tools, PPE and materials are appropriately managed, maintained, stored and used safely and in accordance with manufacturers’ requirements.
- Maintain good housekeeping and site standards, ensuring working areas remain clean, organised and safe, and assist with site inspections, audits and client inspections as required.
- Maintain accurate site records, including daily diaries, labour records, progress information, quality documentation and other project records as required.
- Support the development of operatives and apprentices, providing guidance and sharing knowledge to promote safe working practices and high standards of workmanship.
- Work collaboratively with the Site Manager and wider project team, while engaging positively with company values, policies, training and initiatives.
Experience and knowledge
Essential
- Proven experience in a supervisory or foreman role within a construction, structural repair, concrete repair or refurbishment environment.
- Practical experience of structural repair and refurbishment activities, including concrete repair and associated specialist repair techniques.
- Good understanding of construction Health & Safety requirements.
- Good understanding of Risk Assessments, Method Statements and COSHH assessments and their application on site.
- Ability to supervise and coordinate a team of operatives effectively.
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings, specifications and manufacturers’ requirements.
- Good understanding of quality requirements and what constitutes an acceptable standard of workmanship.
- Ability to plan and organise daily activities, labour, plant and materials.
- Good communication skills and the ability to provide clear instructions and briefings to site personnel.
- Ability to identify problems and take appropriate action or escalate issues where required.
- Willingness to work across different sites and locations as required.
Desirable
- Previous experience supervising specialist structural repair or concrete repair works.
- Experience working within the infrastructure and/or water industry.
- Experience of working on live operational assets.
- Experience coordinating subcontractors and specialist trades.
- Experience completing site records, quality documentation and progress reporting.
- Experience of working in confined spaces or other challenging working environments.
Qualifications & Attainments:
- Appropriate construction industry qualification or demonstrable equivalent experience.
- Relevant supervisory qualification or training.
- Relevant CSCS/Site Supervisor certification appropriate to the role.
- Relevant Health & Safety training.
- First Aid qualification desirable.
- Additional specialist structural repair, concrete repair or manufacturer training desirable.
