Job purpose: The Site Agent (Structural Refurbishment) will be responsible for the management of the construction site in order to achieve required project delivery to the customers’ objectives, while maintaining the highest standards of health & safety, quality, environmental impact and cost control.

The role
The Site Agent is responsible for the successful delivery and management of structural repair and refurbishment projects, ensuring that works are completed safely, to the required quality, within programme and in accordance with the project specification and commercial objectives.
The role will involve the management of specialist structural refurbishment projects across a range of infrastructure and water industry assets. This may include concrete repair, structural strengthening and protection, waterproofing, crack and joint repairs, resin injection and associated refurbishment works.
The Site Agent will provide leadership to the project delivery team, working closely with the Project Manager/Contracts Manager, Site Engineers, Site Supervisors/Foremen, specialist subcontractors, suppliers and client representatives to ensure that projects are planned, coordinated and delivered effectively.
The role requires a strong understanding of structural refurbishment methodologies, construction Health & Safety, quality management, programme delivery and commercial performance, together with the ability to manage the challenges associated with working on existing and operational assets.
Person specification
The Site Agent will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day management and successful delivery of allocated structural refurbishment projects.
They will ensure that projects are delivered in accordance with the contract requirements, approved design, specifications, programme and Mackenzie Management System, while maintaining high standards of Health & Safety, quality, environmental performance and commercial control.
The Site Agent will work closely with the Project Manager/Contracts Manager and wider Structural Refurbishment team, providing effective leadership to Site Engineers, Site Supervisors/Foremen, Operatives and subcontractors.
They will also develop positive working relationships with clients, designers and other project stakeholders, providing a collaborative approach to the delivery of specialist refurbishment works.
A key part of the role will be understanding the condition of existing structures and the practical requirements of repairing and protecting them, ensuring that the proposed methodology can be safely and effectively implemented on site.
Key accountabilities
- Overall responsibility for the safe and successful delivery of allocated structural refurbishment projects, ensuring works are completed to programme, specification, quality and commercial requirements.
- Lead and coordinate the site delivery team, including Site Engineers, Site Supervisors/Foremen, Operatives and subcontractors, ensuring appropriate resources are available and effectively managed.
- Plan and coordinate specialist structural repair activities, including concrete repair, reinforcement preparation, crack and joint repairs, resin injection, waterproofing, protective coatings and other structural refurbishment techniques.
- Ensure all Health & Safety requirements are implemented and maintained, including Project Plans, RAMS, COSHH, permits and site-specific control measures, with particular consideration given to the risks associated with working on existing and operational assets.
- Maintain effective quality control throughout the works, ensuring inspection and testing requirements are understood and achieved, defects are identified and addressed, and appropriate quality records are maintained.
- Manage project programmes and short-term planning, monitoring progress and productivity and taking appropriate action to address delays, constraints or changes in site conditions.
- Monitor and control the commercial performance of projects, including labour, plant, materials and subcontractor costs, identifying scope changes and potential commercial opportunities or risks and escalating them appropriately.
- Manage technical and construction issues arising during refurbishment works, working with the Site Engineer, design team, client and Project/Contracts Manager to develop practical solutions.
- Maintain effective communication with clients, designers, subcontractors, suppliers and the wider project team, ensuring project requirements, progress and issues are clearly communicated.
- Ensure accurate project records are maintained, including site diaries, progress records, labour and resource information, quality documentation, inspections and other contractual records.
- Ensure sites are maintained to a high standard, including housekeeping, environmental controls, plant and material management and compliance with client requirements.
- Provide leadership and promote Mackenzie values and behaviors, developing the site team and supporting the continuous improvement of structural refurbishment delivery.
Experience and knowledge
Essential
- Proven experience delivering construction, structural repair, concrete repair or refurbishment projects.
- Strong understanding of structural refurbishment methodologies and construction techniques.
- Experience managing site teams, subcontractors, labour, plant and materials.
- Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements and the practical application of RAMS.
- Experience managing construction programmes and monitoring progress against planned delivery.
- Good understanding of construction quality requirements, inspection and testing.
- Commercial awareness and understanding of project costs, variations and scope change.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications and technical information.
- Strong communication, leadership and problem-solving skills.
Desirable
- Experience within the infrastructure and/or water industry.
- Experience working on existing or operational assets.
- Experience of concrete repair and specialist structural refurbishment techniques.
- Experience of waterproofing, resin injection, protective coatings or structural strengthening.
- Experience working with specialist structural repair subcontractors and manufacturers.
- Experience managing works within confined spaces or other challenging working environments.
Qualifications & Attainments:
- Relevant construction or engineering qualification, preferably HNC/HND or equivalent.
- CSCS Site Manager/Supervisor card appropriate to the role.
- First Aid qualification.
- Relevant structural repair, concrete repair or manufacturer-specific training would be advantageous.
- Full UK driving license
