Rounding up our 2020 fundraising: My Name’5 Doddie

With the importance of giving back being a core value of our business, this year, Mackenzie Construction chose to support My Name’5 Doddie Foundation as our 2020 nominated charity. The foundation was set up by Scottish rugby personality, Doddie Weir, who has Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

The My Name’5 Doddie Foundation aims to raise funds to aid research into the causes of MND and investigate potential cures as well as making grants to individuals suffering from the incurable disease to ensure they can live as fulfilled a life as possible.

Our fundraising in the past has included sponsored walks, indoor cycle challenges and charity football matches, but the restrictions around COVID-19 unfortunately made it difficult to organise events of this nature. However, our team rose to the challenge and got creative, coming up with some socially distant, fundraising activities.

In the autumn, we had our Mackenzie Construction 2020 Scavenger Hunt, a fun challenge created by our Health and Wellbeing committee that encouraged our team and their households to get out and explore their local areas, donating to take part.

We also had our Project Manager, Colin McEachnie, take on a marathon challenge in November, running 26.2 miles per week over the month, all whilst fundraising towards My Name’5 Doddie. Our annual Christmas jumper competition also encouraged the team to get involved and raise funds for our nominated charity.

We are delighted to have raised a total of £2895 in 2020 and would like to thank everyone who donated to our chosen charity this year. We plan to continue our support of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation into next year, as our official nominated charity for 2021.

With hope of restrictions easing as we move through the year ahead, we are already looking forward to some fantastic fundraising activities with our team, clients, partners and supply chain and will be looking to further improve upon this year’s impressive total in 2021.
