This project included the removal of a structural dam section to form a new spillway together with spillway channel repairs and joint replacement.
The works at Loch Thom required transferring rock armour across the spillway to a badly eroded area adjacent to the spillway weir. In addition, concrete repairs were completed to infill panels as well as the replacement of the existing water bars. On the crest of the compensation reservoir at Loch Thom, a new wave wall was constructed to ensure that the dam is able to cope with the effects of a 1 in 200 year storm.
At Auchendores Reservoir, the weir to the existing spillway was breached. This was achieved by cutting a notch, 6m long and 1.5m high using stitch drilling techniques around the perimeter with 100mm diameter cores and incorporating extension bars of up to 2m long. Other works at Auchendores Reservoir included remedial steelwork repairs to the release valve and gantry.
